Creating a secret garden
As part of their Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) project, a handful of our Grade 12 students came together to create a ‘Secret Garden’ by transforming a neglected area of the school grounds into a wonderful space for the Preschool and Eco club to use for recreational activities.
Annika, one of our 12th Grade students explains the transformation process:
“For 9 weeks we cleaned the area and removed waste. Once completed, the area was constructed into a safe environment for the Preschoolers by making a new path, installing planters and flower beds, and creating a campfire area with seating”
Commenting on the new garden, Andrea Taylor, our Head of Preschool says:
“These 12th Grade students have worked hard to breathe new life into an overgrown and unused space, and their efforts have certainly paid off! The grand opening was very exciting, particularly as the Preschool children were always curious as to what might be beyond the gates, which lead from our garden.
Last week, they were able to go through these gates to see for themselves, sharing their first impressions, plans and wishes for the secret garden. This is a wonderful space, which offers many opportunities to explore, wonder, question, observe and learn about the natural world.
A huge thank you to all involved in this project”
