The Africulture Festival Debut Performance
We at ISA were honoured to host the launch of the brand-new cultural festival, which is set to take the city by storm in early 2023.
Celebrating our 50th anniversary, this year we have teamed up with The Africulture Network to bring a unique celebration of Africa to Aberdeen. On Friday 28th of October, we were lucky enough to host the festivals opening, with a debut performance from the Touch of Love Dance Group.
The 2023 festival is set to attract over 2,000 visitors from across the North-East and beyond for a packed day of activities from African dance and choir performances to storytellers, interactive games, food tasting and fashion shows.
Mavis Anagboso, Vice-Chair of The Africulture Network has said “The continent of Africa has many hidden gems buried in ancient history, and The Africulture Network aims to showcase the wide range of talent, natural resources and heritage of Africa through a vibrant day of learning and entertainment for all the family.”
Aberdeen is a cultural hub, with people from all around the world relocating here for all kinds of business, Mavis states that “One in four people in Aberdeen were born outside of Scotland and, when you compare that to the national average of 16%, it highlights an incredibly diverse and international community in Aberdeen that is worth celebrating.”
Nick Little, our Head of School, speaks on behalf of all of us here at ISA saying that “We are thrilled to be hosting this new and exciting event which will celebrate the wonderfully rich African culture in Aberdeen in a new, vibrant and exciting way.”
“ISA is unrelentingly passionate about celebrating diversity and honouring our international connections; therefore we are extremely proud to be the principal sponsor of this event which honours the cultural heritage of Africa.”
He added: “One of our primary aims is to share this as an important opportunity for education and entertainment with the wider community and we look forward to opening our doors to the general public for this very special inaugural event.”
After the wonderful performance last week, we can’t wait for the festival next year!
