I joined ISA last year, so I started in Grade 7. I’m originally from Nepal, and I moved to Aberdeen when I was eleven, so I’ve lived here for about a year and two months. While I attended a private international school in Nepal, the experience at ISA is quite different in terms of the cultural diversity and the encouragement to learning.
At first, it was a bit hard to settle in because I was a new student and I was really shy. But everybody was super friendly, and it didn’t take me long to settle in, especially with the teachers being so supportive.
I’ve noticed a big difference in the diversity of the students here at ISA. There are so many different cultures and perspectives, and it’s really fun to learn and know about everyone. The learning style here is really dynamic and inclusive, with a lot of group work, projects, and discussions that make subjects way more exciting. I like how we focus on real-world issues and critical thinking, not just textbook knowledge. I especially love math and science—math is fun because I enjoy solving problems, and science is cool because I get to do experiments and learn new things.
My friends are some of the best people I’ve met. Everyone is so supportive, and I really feel like I can be myself here. The teachers are also great and make us all feel like a big team that should care and support each other. The biggest highlight of my time so far was the residential trip to Dounans. It was a really exciting five-day trip where me and all my friends got to do so many fun activities.
I’m also part of the badminton, swimming, and softball clubs. It’s awesome because I love being active and trying out new sports. After a busy day at school, I find it relaxing to do these activities with my friends. The reason I feel that ISA is really special is because it always has that sense of belonging and inclusivity which makes me feel like I’m at home. That feeling will make you study more with less stress and pressure. I’m really glad I joined ISA, as it’s not only a place to learn, but a place to grow, make friends, and have fun.
