Adventures Out and About
Field trips are an integral part of our academic year, with a rich variety of opportunities for students in Preschool and Elementary School
An inspirational
break from routine
Routines give children a sense of security, freeing them to learn and think big. But it’s the occasional break from routine – a carefully planned field trip – that provides moments of real inspiration. We believe learning is a discovery of the self, of others, and of the wider world, and some lessons can only be learned outside the classroom, experienced directly with peers and teachers.
Our journeys for younger students start in Preschool with adventures to discover other parts of our large campus and culminate in a residential trip for our oldest Elementary students. Each trip is a thoughtfully considered part of our curriculum, offering the right challenge for the right age. They allow students to extend their understanding of ideas discussed in class, while also discovering new things about themselves and interacting with their peers and teachers in a new context.

Journeys in Discovery
Read on to see how field trips at every grade level build skills, confidence, and a deeper connection to the world.
Kindergarten
In Kindergarten, students take their first steps into the local community. These adventures begin with simple tasks like a walk to the post box to post a letter, and expand to include exploring the nature of Hazlehead Woods and discovering the magic of live theatre at the Lemon Tree.

Grade 1
The world opens up for Grade 1 students as their trips broaden to ignite new interests. They become young scientists at the Aberdeen Science Centre, curious historians at Drum Castle, and imaginative explorers on the Dunnottar Woods & Fairy Trail, connecting their learning to the wider world.

Grade 2
Grade 2 is a year of unique adventures in history and nature. Students step into the world of performing arts at His Majesty’s Theatre, get up close with majestic birds of prey at the Huntly Falconry Centre, and explore the magnificent grounds of Crathes Castle.

Grade 3
Students begin to venture further afield in Grade 3, travelling to new cities and landmarks. Trips to the V&A and Rep Theatre in Dundee introduce them to nationally significant cultural venues, while a hike up Bennachie offers a memorable local challenge.

Grade 4
In Grade 4, field trips directly connect classroom learning to the real world, with a strong focus on sustainability and innovation. Students visit cutting-edge sites like the Donside Hydro Plant and a local wind turbine, alongside cultural expeditions to the National Museum of Scotland and the Edinburgh International Book Festival.

Grade 5
The Grade 5 experience culminates in a residential trip to Nethybridge, a highlight of the elementary years that builds independence, resilience, and lasting friendships. Other trips support their growing maturity, with cultural and linguistic immersion at the French Consulate in Edinburgh and expert-led environmental studies at Greyhope Bay.

Our Campus
Every day students have on-site access to our modern purpose-built facilities on our amazing campus.
