Sustainability & Environmental Impact

We actively promote an environmentally conscious lifestyle, weaving sustainability education throughout our curriculum

Developing socially responsible, active global citizens

Across the school, we actively encourage a more environmentally-friendly lifestyle, integrating sustainability education across multiple parts of our curriculum.

In 2016, ISA received its first EcoSchools Green Flag award, an achievement that is renewed year on year thanks to the activities of our Environmental and EcoSchools Clubs in support of the United Nations’ sustainability goals.

We see our Environmental Club as an important agent of change as we develop ‘socially responsible, active global citizens’ with a focus on minimising the school’s impact on the environment.

We deliver specific courses that support our environmental and sustainability objectives. All students in Grades 9 and 10 study Global Perspectives, a course that promotes international mindedness and awareness of global issues.

All students in Grade 10 take part in the Youth Philanthropy Initiative and one of our most popular IB subjects in Grades 11 & 12 is ‘Environmental systems and societies’.

As an IB world school, we follow the lead of the International Baccalaureate, which weaves these critical themes throughout its programmes. Rather than treating environmental issues as a separate topic, the IB integrates them across various subjects, from sciences to humanities, encouraging students to see the interconnectedness of global challenges.

The journey begins in the Primary Years Programme (PYP), where learners build a foundational awareness of the natural world through units of inquiry themed around sharing the planet. This understanding is deepened in the Middle Years Programme (MYP), as students explore complex environmental issues through interdisciplinary study and global contexts, connecting local challenges to worldwide systems.

Finally, in the Diploma Programme (DP), students engage in sophisticated, in-depth analysis of sustainability challenges across their subjects and are empowered to take meaningful, real-world action through core components like CAS(Creativity, Activity, Service), solidifying their role as responsible global citizens.
